Carib, Méx [flaco] skinny♦ nm,f[persona] Fleming;los flamencos the Flemish♦ nm1. [ave] flamingo2. [lengua] Flemish3. [música, baile] flamencoFLAMENCOAlthough often seen as synonymous with Spanish culture abroad, flamenco originated in the southern region of Andalusia. It has deep roots in Gypsy, Arab and Jewish music, and it is Spain’s “gitanos” (gypsies) who have kept it flourishing to the present day. Originally, flamenco consisted of unaccompanied singing (“cante”). Later this was accompanied by flamenco guitar (“toque”), rhythmic hand clapping (“palmas”), rhythmic feet stamping (“zapateado”) and dance (“baile”). The castanets (“castañuelas”) so often associated with flamenco were introduced only later. Flamenco is actually a catch-all term for a wide range of musical styles, which range from the strangulated emotive sobbing of “cante jondo” (one of the most traditional forms), to the work of new artists who are producing catchy rock and pop versions of flamenco.* * *I adj MÚS flamenco atr ;ponerse flamenco get smart o fresh;estar muy flamenco para su edad fam be in pretty good shape for one’s ageII m1 MÚS flamenco2 ZO flamingo* * *flamenco, -ca adj1) : flamenco2) : Flemishflamenco, -ca n: Fleming, Flemish personflamenco nm1) : Flemish (language)2) : flamingo3) : flamenco (music or dance)* * *flamenco2 n1. It symbolizes the cultural ties shared by Spanish-speaking countriesOn December 28 people in the Spanish-speaking world celebrate the Feast of the Holy Innocents, a religious festival commemorating the New Testament story of the massacre of the ‘Innocents’, by playing practical jokes, or inocentadas, on one another. The classic inocentada is to hang paper dolls on someone's back without their knowing. ¿As, like o how?
He entered as an office-boy, as his father had twenty years before.
He's just like his father. In March, as in April, it rained.
How did you do it?
cómo adverbio
1 (interrogativo) how: ¿cómo es de alto?, how high is it?
¿cómo estás?, how are you?
¿cómo se hace?, how is it made?
2 (cuánto) ¿a cómo están los plátanos?, how much are the bananas?
3 (por qué) ¿cómo es que no nos avisaste?, why didn't you warn us?
familiar ¿cómo es eso?, how come?
5 (exclamativo) how
¡cómo ha cambiado!, how she's changed!
♦ Locuciones: cómo no, of course
